The Cellar belongs to the family of Mr
FÉLIX RODRÍGUEZ RODRÍGUEZ, a highly entrepreneurial man.
In the 80’s he devoted part of his savings to buying a 30,000 m2 plot in the area known as El Lomo, in the municipality of Tegueste.
He began producing small amounts of wine with an open press and a screw press. He was amazed by the enological potential of the stock in the land: the varieties red forastero (red listán), white listán, negramolle, tintillo castellana, málaga, gual, white malvasía, rosé malvasía, etc
He decided to improve the production methods to bring out the full aroma, taste and splendour of the grapes harvested in El Lomo.
He started by restoring the old barn and turning it into a small but interesting cellar, with stainless steel tanks and systems to control the fermentation temperature. The cellar’s initial capacity was of 6000 litres, for “private enjoyment”.
The quality of the wine and its success among consumers led to subsequent extensions. This forced him to build a new and modern cellar with the capacity to easily produce 300,000 kg. of grapes.
Where to find us:
La Bodega (the Cellar), within the municipality of Tegueste and in an entirely rural environment, from which one can enjoy a fabulous view of the area, is located between 375 and 413 metres above sea level, within an estate from which it has taken its name and brand “El Lomo”, originally a volcanic and rocky site upon which transported earth has been laid to improve the soil. This, together with proper crop management, has helped the vineyard to make the most of such unique characteristics.
